AGRIVOLTAICS 2024

Given the rapid growth of the global population, there is an increasing need to enhance food production and energy generation. However, meeting the rising demand for food would likely result in greater fossil fuel usage, leading to higher greenhouse gas emissions. REPowerEU seeks to achieve 45% renewable energy in the EU at 2030 mix and expedite PV energy adoption through an EU solar energy strategy.

Agrivoltaics is an emerging technology field that combines the most innovative Renewable Energy solution based on Flexible Semitransparent Organic Photovoltaics (OPV) and the other FPE devices with Agriculture to lead a sustainable farming process and crop growth. The implementation of OPV-based energy generation systems without affecting the arable land addresses the challenge of limited available land for agriculture and promotes sustainable land management practices.

Agrivoltaics, especially with OPVs can contribute not only to the 1 TWp solar target by 2030 and 50 TWp solar target by 2050, but also to increase dramatically the food production and water management. The integration of semi-transparent Agrivoltaic energy systems provide shade, reducing evaporation and conserving water resources. This aspect is crucial for achieving sustainable farming practices and ensuring efficient use of water resources, especially in regions facing water scarcity.

Furthermore, Agrivoltaics offers economic benefits as job creation, local economic development, and increased energy independence. In the near future, Greenhouse and open cultivations will be fully transformed into sustainable food production units and power plants for self-consumption, electricity trade and grid connection, creating wealth, employment, and prosperity in local communities and the countries.

AGRIVOLTAICS 2024 is a world-class premier gathering of experts, researchers, farmers, and industry leaders dedicated to exploring the rapidly evolving section of Agrivoltaics and its enormous impact in the achievement of energy-efficient crops cultivation, which can expand on a global scale. It is your platform to connect, collaborate, and drive innovation in the Agrivoltaics sector.

The participants will present and explore groundbreaking Agrivoltaics applications across a wide spectrum, focusing on the following topics:

Topics to be discussed include:

  • PV and OPV Panel Technologies for Agrivoltaics
  • OPV in Greenhouses and open Cultivation practices
  • Energy Generation and Crop Production in Agriculture practice
  • Environmental impact of Agrivoltaics Systems
  • LEDs and OLEDs for lighting to boost crops quality and increase food harvesting
  • Scaling Agrivoltaics - A New Era, New Opportunities and New Challenges
  • AI Adapted in Agrivoltaics
  • Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources (HRES) for Greenhouses
  • Agrivoltaic’s effect on crop production
  • Infections proactively shielded by OPVs
  • Optimized Triple use of land & Minimize Landscape and Environment impact
  • Energy Autonomy in Agriculture and Food Production
  • Harmonising Agrivoltaics: Ensuring Landscape Coherence and Integration
  • Sustainable Solutions to Provide Ecosystem Services
  • Energy and Crop monitoring and control in hydroponic Greenhouses
  • Artificial Photosynthesis
  • Water management
